I’m going to be completely honest, not that I haven’t been in the past, but I want to admit that I’m not a great cook. I don’t measure. I use, but don’t follow recipes. I do not defrost anything according to the FDA guidelines.
There I’ve said it and I’m glad it’s out in the open, because I have a confession to make. Not only am I not a good cook, after all is said and done; I’m just an okay cook who has few recipes that I keep on deck and a couple of others I keep in my back pocket and sometimes I burn things.
I shouldn’t say things, because you might get the wrong idea. I mean…I burn food.
There have been times when breakfast or dinner was absolutely FUBAR! For some odd reason, I can make a pretty decent lunch – that is unless I step away, for a brief moment, while making a grilled cheese sandwich; then it’s toast (no pun intended).
Looking back, I realize I’ve had many cooking mishaps. At times I wonder whether some of these disastrous meals might have been caused by other forces, such as; the grill, the pot or pan, rather than the user.
A few weeks ago, I was asked to do a product review for the Ozeri Green Earth Textured Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan. Nonstick? Are you kidding me? And how!
I received an 8 inch pan which is the perfect size for sauteing vegetables or cooking a breakfast for one.
I prepare a traditional breakfast of bacon and eggs almost every morning. Sometimes I fail to use enough grease, butter or nonstick cooking spray so the aftermath is not good. There are only a few things worse than burnt eggs. The clean-up is one of them.
After washing the pan for initial use, it’s recommended that you season the pan using a little oil. I followed the directions using approximately 1/4 tsp of vegetable oil – wiping away any excess. So what did I make? My breakfast of choice – turkey bacon and scrambled eggs.
The pan comfortably holds 3 strips of bacon. I normally cook breakfast for two and would have preferred a larger pan, but because the ceramic nonstick surface cooks faster than a traditional pan; the actually cook time shouldn’t be too bad.* When in Rome…
Because of the expected faster cooking time, I didn’t stray too far. I didn’t want the bacon to burn and a few minutes later, I had enough bacon for two. I would usually rinse the pan, while reserving a little of the grease to scramble my eggs, but there was very little residue remaining in the pan so I poured my egg mixture directly in the hot pan without adding any additional oil or using nonstick cooking spray.
I increased the flame just a bit just a bit and prepared to scramble. I didn’t want the eggs to burn as I absolutely hate the smell.
Oops! Ozeri recommends that you only use plastic or wooden utensils to prevent from scratching the nonstick coating.
Breakfast is ready and it looks like an easy clean up!
As they say, seeing is believing! I could have easily wiped the pan clean with a paper towel, but I’m no heathen. I washed it out anyway. You should wash anything you used to prepare a meal.
Since then, I have used the Ozeri Green Earth Pan a few times and have experienced similar results. I continue to follow the packaged instructions, because I like the pan and I want it to last. As I said previously, it is the perfect pan for cooking breakfast for one.
