Guess Who’s Back?

About a month ago, although it was very tough, I made the decision to take my talents to South Beach.  Not really, but how funny was that?  Remember “The Decision”  TV Special?  75 minutes to hear one sentence.

Seriously??  Should I even being doing this now?

I attended a blog boot camp this spring and the primary take away was it’s considered a best practice to host your own domain name on  In my last post, The Great DebateI wrote that I had made the decision to migrate from Blogger to WordPress.  Hence the domain name,  That’s my dot com : P

After a brief hiatus,  I’m happy to be back.

Literally and figuratively.

I’m new to WordPress, but I’m not new to blogging; therefore I’m actually back, but I guess I’m still new.  Whatever.  You know what I mean.  Like all relationships, it’s complicated.  Luckily the move wasn’t, but it wasn’t a cake walk either.

I was so concerned about losing content, I didn’t worry myself about format, links, pictures and video.

Yeah… as you might imagine, there were broken links, loss of formatting, pictures and video.  However, updating the cosmetics and functionality allowed me to learn more about the WordPress way.  I was prepared to get dirty.

It was great to have so many themes (templates) to choose from – hundreds, probably thousands, millions – until I realized I couldn’t make a choice.  I’m happy to say I found my theme on Day 2 of migration.  Unfortunately, I didn’t commit to that theme until Day 25.  Too many to look at, so little time.  There were still plugins to install and test.

I couldn’t wait to install plugins and widgets (gadgets) until I realized they didn’t all play well with select themes (templates).  I never imagined that  some wouldn’t play at all. However, when I found the ones that did, they blew me away.

Yes… It is possible to love a theme (template) that does not support your widget (gadget) or love a plugin that doesn’t work.

I found myself constantly making mental T-charts of likes and dislikes, pros and cons, haves and hmms.  Dirty got dirtier and I didn’t even have my “play clothes” on and I was working against a self-imposed deadline.  Time was running out.

Save the Date

I don’t remember whether all the pages from my Blogger blog  imported successfully.  I was too busy creating new pages, adding tags and modifying permalinks.  All my custom permalinks from Blogger were loss.  I’m not sure, but this may have been user error.  There were so many details; it’s possible I overlooked a radio button or check box.

Then the day came.  It was time to go live.  I’ve previewed in different browsers – checked links and videos.  Everything appeared to be zipped, buttoned and tied.  I was no longer under construction.  I made my debut Sunday, July 7, 2013 as scheduled.

It always feels great to accomplish a goal.

Just as I was preparing to pat myself on the back, I decided to check out the new digs on my Samsung Galaxy phone. No… I still haven’t upgraded to the Blackberry Q10 yet.  I know…my priorities are jacked.  So like I was saying, I visit on my mobile device and to my horror it didn’t load.

What the what?

This didn’t happen with my Blogger blog.  It was mobile ready.  A few seconds later, it dawned on me that there was probably a Mobile Widget (gadget) that I could install that would correct this problem.  And just like that, I was mobile ready.

Although there were hiccups and probably some hiccups I haven’t realized, I am happy that I made the switch from Blogger to WordPress.  There were a few challenges, but I fought through them like a champ.  I may have a few bruises, a black eye and a fat lip, but I made it through – like a champ I tell ya.

Welcome back! I love the look of your new "domain". I'm glad you stuck with it and are still blogging. I'm still on blogger (and hardly EVER blog!) You were missed 🙂

Thank you for continuing to read and follow. The migration from Blogger to WordPress wasn't an easy one (at least not for me), but doing so it allowed me to take about a month off from blogging – guilt free! It's funny how a self-imposed activity brings about stress. One might think blogging is easy, "you're just recapping your day", but for me its more than that. I never wanted my blog to be a personal diary, but sometimes there just isn't a story to tell, not to mention sometimes there is really no motivation to write. I completely understand why you may not blog as often as you use too. It feels good to be back, blogging is my outlet to the outside world. Sad but true. ttyl. Thanks again.

Thanks, it's good to be back. Blogger is a nice place to "cut your teeth", but I do like WordPress better and I wish I would have done it sooner. I only had 125 posts and I had to (I guess I didn't have to) reformat each one! I know you have a lot of content so that's definitely something you may want to keep tuck away in the back of your head. ttyl
