Why You Drink And How To Stop ~ Journey To Freedom

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Like many others, I started drinking in college, but my very first taste of alcohol was from a sip of my father’s beer when I was around 9 years old.  He was outside having a beer one night and asked if I wanted a taste.  I can still remember that first taste.   It was bitter.  It was cold and I wanted to taste it again.  As the years passed, I would find opportunities to steal a swig from an open can here and there.

It’s been a long time since I’ve had one too many – perhaps it’s because my tolerance has grown. I was never the dancing on the table type nor would you ever find me asleep in a corner with a lampshade on my head, but I must admit, unfortunately I’ve had my moments. Frankly speaking, I’m trying to head off any future moments at the pass.

Recently I was asked to review a self-help book on alcoholism and addiction ~ Why You Drink And How To Stop – Journey To Freedom written by Veronica Valli, an addictions therapist and recovered alcoholic. Based on her years of experience working with addicts and alcoholics and her own personal struggle with alcoholism, Veronica explores how alcoholics think, feel and react differently to the world, and shows how these are the engines that drive someone to destructive drinking.

I enjoy my spirits regularly and responsibly.  However, I do not want to hit rock bottom before I decide to make a change. I appreciate Veronica’s voice, personal accounts and the stories of others.  I would recommend this book to anyone who is an alcoholic, in a relationship with an alcoholic or to anyone struggling with addiction.

I’m Just Sayin’…(Damn!)
